A Way Back Home

“We must all die; we are like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. But God will not take away life, and he devises means so that the banished one will not remain an outcast.”

2 SAMUEL 14:14 · ESV

1.

WATER SPILLED OUT

The image is harsh on purpose: a lost life is like water on the ground, impossible to gather back. The wise woman speaks plainly about mortality.

2.

BUT GOD DOES NOT TAKE LIFE

After the grim image comes the contrast: unlike death which has no return, God actively works to preserve and restore.

3.

HE DEVISES A WAY

God doesn't passively wait for the banished to find their own way back — He plans, engineers, and creates paths of return.

4.

FOR ABSALOM AND FOR YOU

The parable was engineered to bring Absalom back from exile — but the truth it carries is bigger than that story and reaches you today.

5.

NO EXILE IS FINAL

If you feel banished — by your own mistake, by distance, by shame — this verse says God is already at work on your way back.

6.

TAKE ONE STEP BACK TODAY

Act: name one person or situation you feel exiled from, and take one concrete step back today — a call, a message, a prayer of reconciliation.
