I Have Sinned

“David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the LORD.” And Nathan said to David, “The LORD also has put away your sin; you shall not die.”

1.

A PARABLE THAT EXPOSES

Nathan didn't accuse David head-on — he told a story until the king condemned himself with his own mouth. Sometimes truth needs a parable to get in.

2.

NO EXCUSES, NO DETOUR

David doesn't defend himself, doesn't blame Bathsheba, doesn't minimize. Five direct words: "I have sinned against the LORD." True confession doesn't negotiate.

3.

PARDON IN THE SAME BREATH

There's no gap between the confession and Nathan's answer. God doesn't make the sinner wait to find out if he's accepted.

4.

CONSEQUENCE WITHOUT CONDEMNATION

"You shall not die" doesn't erase all the pain still to come — but it clearly separates forgiveness from the absence of consequence.

5.

THE PSALM IS BORN HERE

It is from this exact moment that Psalm 51 is born — the Bible's most-read prayer of repentance started with this short, courageous line.

6.

SAY THE WORDS

Act: name one specific sin you've been avoiding confessing, say out loud "I have sinned against the LORD," and receive forgiveness without apologizing for needing it.
