My Help Comes

“I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.”

PSALM 121:1-2 · ESV

1.

LOOKING TO THE HILLS

Pilgrims climbed dangerous roads ringed by hills — the psalmist's question rises out of real danger, not an abstract fear.

2.

AN HONEST QUESTION

"From where does my help come?" isn't empty rhetoric — it's the sincere question of someone who genuinely needs help and doesn't yet know where to find it.

3.

THE ANSWER COMES FAST

The psalmist doesn't let the question linger — in the same breath he answers it, because certainty about God doesn't need many words.

4.

THE MAKER OF EVERYTHING

The one who made heaven and earth is bigger than any dangerous hill on the road — the size of your help is measured by the size of the one giving it.

5.

EYES THAT LIFT

Lifting your eyes is a bodily act, not just a mental one — when you're anxious, literally changing what your eyes rest on is already a step of faith.

6.

ACT BY LIFTING YOUR EYES

Act: The next time anxiety tightens today, literally lift your eyes toward the sky and say out loud where your help comes from.
