A Wise Request

“Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?””

1.

A BLANK CHECK FROM GOD

God had just said "ask whatever you wish" — and it's telling what Solomon chooses to ask for when he could ask for anything.

2.

NOT WEALTH, NOT REVENGE

Solomon doesn't ask for long life, riches, or his enemies' death — three things God later points out he could have requested instead.

3.

SERVANT BEFORE KING

He calls himself "your servant" while speaking to God, even though he is Israel's king. True leadership starts by seeing yourself as a servant.

4.

DISCERN, NOT JUST KNOW

The request isn't for information but for discernment — the ability to tell good from evil in messy, real situations.

5.

THE WEIGHT OF RESPONSIBILITY

"Who is able to govern this your great people?" is an honest question from someone who feels the task is bigger than his own capacity.

6.

ASK FOR DISCERNMENT TODAY

Act: before your first big decision today, pause and pray Solomon's prayer in your own words, asking for a heart that discerns good from evil.
