DAY 347The Root of Evil · Dec 13, 2026

The Root of All Evil

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.”

1.

THE LOVE, NOT THE MONEY

Paul doesn't condemn money itself — he targets the heart that loves it more than it should, the hidden root beneath the visible problem.

2.

ONE ROOT, MANY EVILS

"All kinds of evils" is deliberately broad — greed disguises itself as dozens of seemingly unrelated sins.

3.

CRAVING THAT LEADS ASTRAY

"Wandered away from the faith" describes a gradual drift, not a single fall — greed pulls slowly, step by step.

4.

MANY SELF-INFLICTED SORROWS

The text says they "pierced themselves" — greed's pain doesn't come from outside, it's manufactured by the choice itself.

5.

A WARNING FOR A YOUNG PASTOR

Paul writes this to Timothy, someone already serving God — the warning isn't for outsiders, it's for those already walking the path of faith.

6.

ACT AGAINST GREED TODAY

Act: Look at your bank statement or your most recent purchase impulse and ask God in prayer whether money has claimed a bigger place in your heart than it should.
