“so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
This verse closes one of the church's earliest hymns about Christ — after describing His humiliation, the hymn ends in total exaltation.
The name that sounded so ordinary in Nazareth is now the name before which all creation bends — exaltation follows directly from the humility He chose.
'In heaven and on earth and under the earth' covers absolutely everything that exists — no realm of creation is exempt from this final submission.
'Every tongue confess' includes voices that deny or ignore Jesus today — the day is coming when the truth will be declared by all, whether gladly or not.
All this praise of Jesus doesn't compete with the Father's glory — it culminates there, because exalting the Son always glorifies the One who sent Him.
Act: Physically kneel at some point today and say out loud 'Jesus Christ is Lord,' choosing now the confession that will one day be universal.
