Gift, Not Wage

Paul has just described you as dead in trespasses — this line comes right after, the impossible answer to an impossible condition.
BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH
Grace is the source, faith is the channel — neither originates in you, both arrive from outside, offered and simply received.
NOT YOUR OWN DOING
Paul is explicit: neither grace nor faith originates in you — even the capacity to believe is part of what God grants, not something you achieved.
GIFT, NOT PAYMENT
'It is the gift of God' rules out any idea of exchange — you didn't pay for this and never could, it was given entirely free.
NO ROOM FOR BOASTING
'So that no one may boast' explains the purpose behind the design — if salvation depended on works, you'd have grounds for pride; by grace, you don't.
ACT BY RECEIVING, NOT EARNING
Act: Name one area where you've been trying to earn God's favor through effort, and consciously choose today to receive it as a gift, in a prayer of gratitude.
