THE ANSWER CAME FROM THE EXPERT HIMSELF

A lawyer tried to test Jesus by asking what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus turns the question back, and it's the expert himself who quotes this summary of the law.

2.

FOUR WORDS FOR EVERYTHING

Heart, soul, strength, and mind — the command leaves no part of you out. This isn't partial or reserved love; it's love that claims every dimension of the person.

3.

TWO LOVES, ONE COMMAND

Loving God and loving neighbor appear together, almost as a single sentence — separating them in practice is the error the Good Samaritan parable, coming right after, corrects.

4.

AS YOURSELF

The standard of comparison isn't abstract — it's the natural care you already have for yourself. Loving your neighbor this way demands real attention to their actual needs.

5.

EVERYTHING ELSE HANGS ON THIS

In a parallel account, Jesus says the whole law and prophets hang on these two commands. They aren't two among many — they're the axis everything else turns on.

6.

ACT BY LOVING WITH EVERYTHING TODAY

Act: Choose someone close to you today and love them on purpose with one concrete action that costs you time or effort, as a physical sign of this command in practice.
