Dwelling in Unity

“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!”

PSALM 133:1 · ESV

1.

"BEHOLD"

The psalm opens by asking you to stop and take notice — unity among believers isn't common enough to go unremarked.

2.

GOOD AND PLEASANT

Two different words describe the same thing — good because it reflects God's character, pleasant because it brings real delight to those living it.

3.

BROTHERS, NOT STRANGERS

The word chosen here assumes kinship — the unity celebrated isn't between polite strangers, it's between those who already belong to the same family.

4.

DWELLING, NOT JUST COEXISTING

"Dwelling together" implies ongoing closeness — not an occasional polite encounter, but the decision to actually share life, friction and all.

5.

A SONG FOR THE JOURNEY

Pilgrims sang this while climbing together to Jerusalem — the unity they celebrated grew out of the shared journey, not a friction-free life.

6.

TEND THE UNITY TODAY

Act: Reach out today to a brother or sister in the faith you've drifted from, and take one concrete step to restore dwelling together with them.
