Whom Shall I Fear

“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

PSALM 27:1 · ESV

1.

LIGHT IN THE DARK

David does not just call the Lord a refuge, but a light. Where darkness tries to hide the danger, God's presence lights the path ahead.

2.

SALVATION ALREADY SECURE

He does not say God might save him, but that God is his salvation — something already settled, not a distant possibility yet to be proven.

3.

A RHETORICAL QUESTION

'Whom shall I fear?' seeks no answer — it is a declaration dressed as a question. Before such light and salvation, nothing else carries enough weight.

4.

STRONGHOLD OF LIFE

The word pictures a fortress, a high and secure place. Your life is kept inside a shelter that no threat can break through.

5.

CONFIDENCE REPEATED

David repeats the same truth in different words, like a man persuading his own heart. Sometimes faith needs to be said twice before it is believed.

6.

NAME AND HAND OVER THE FEAR

Act: write in one sentence what you fear most today, read the verse aloud over that sentence, and hand that fear to God as one hands over a weight.
