Sorrow into Gladness

“as the days on which the Jews got relief from their enemies, and as the month that had been turned for them from sorrow into gladness and from mourning into a holiday; that they should make them days of feasting and gladness, days for sending gifts of food to one another and gifts to the poor.”

1.

THE MONTH THAT TURNED

The very month planned for the Jews' destruction became the month of their celebration. God reversed the enemy's calendar.

2.

FROM MOURNING TO FEAST

"Sorrow into gladness," "mourning into a holiday" — the turnaround was not partial, it was complete. God does not do half-finished restorations.

3.

GIFTS THAT MULTIPLY JOY

The celebration included exchanging food gifts between neighbors — personal joy became communal generosity.

4.

GIFTS TO THE POOR

The feast was not complete without caring for those who had less. Purim teaches that genuine joy always reaches the needy.

5.

A WRITTEN REMEMBRANCE

Mordecai wrote these instructions so the deliverance would never be forgotten. Recorded celebrations keep the memory of God's faithfulness alive.

6.

TURN YOUR TURNAROUND INTO A GIFT

Act: before breakfast, recall one sorrow God has already turned to gladness in your life, and send a gift — food, money, time — to someone in need today.
