Not as Man Sees
“But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the LORD sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.””
DO NOT LOOK ON HIS APPEARANCE
Samuel was already impressed with Eliab, David's older brother. God corrects the prophet's own eyes before revealing His choice.
STATURE IS NOT THE STANDARD
Israel had already chosen Saul for his impressive height, and that failed. God refuses to repeat the same human standard again.
I HAVE REJECTED HIM
God's decision was already made before Samuel formed his own opinion. Divine judgment arrives ahead of human first impressions.
MAN LOOKS ON THE OUTWARD APPEARANCE
It is natural and human to judge by what the eyes can reach. Scripture does not condemn this as wickedness, only as limitation.
THE LORD LOOKS ON THE HEART
David, the youngest, forgotten out in the field with the sheep, is exactly who God had already chosen. The most hidden place can hold the highest calling.
ASK FOR GOD'S EYES
Act: think of someone you have judged by appearance or position, and pray today asking God to help you see that person as He sees their heart.
