No Vengeance, No Grudge

“You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD.”

1.

TWO BANS BEFORE THE COMMAND

God bans vengeance and grudge-holding first, then commands love — because real love requires first releasing what is held inside.

2.

A GRUDGE HELD

Bearing a grudge means carrying an offense inwardly even without acting on it — God condemns silent resentment as much as open revenge.

3.

AS YOURSELF

The standard is yourself — the same care, patience, and forgiveness you reserve for yourself is the measure God asks for your neighbor.

4.

THE SONS OF YOUR OWN PEOPLE

The original text aims at those nearest — the family of faith, the everyday neighbor, where offenses hurt most and pile up fastest.

5.

I AM THE LORD

The verse closes with this short signature — the command isn't a social suggestion, it's an order from the One who has authority over you.

6.

RELEASE WHAT YOU'RE HOLDING

Act: Name before God right now the specific grudge you still hold against someone in your own community, and hand it over to Him in prayer as a deliberate act of release.
