Power in Weakness

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

1.

A REQUEST DENIED

Paul had already asked three times for the thorn in his flesh to be removed — this answer came after the refusal, not before it.

2.

MY GRACE IS SUFFICIENT

God doesn't promise to remove the problem — He promises His grace is enough to get through it, which is often the harder answer to accept.

3.

POWER PERFECTED IN WEAKNESS

'Made perfect in weakness' flips human logic — God doesn't wait for you to get strong to act, He acts most fully when you admit you're not.

4.

BOASTING IN WEAKNESSES

Paul doesn't merely tolerate his weakness, he chooses to boast in it — a response only possible after really grasping what God had just said.

5.

POWER THAT RESTS ON YOU

'Rest upon me' describes something that lingers, like a sheltering shadow — Christ's power doesn't just pass through, it settles over acknowledged weakness.

6.

ACT BY NAMING YOUR WEAKNESS

Act: Name out loud today the weakness you work hardest to hide, and pray that Christ's power would rest right there, instead of asking for it to vanish.
