“Thus says the LORD: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the LORD.””
Wisdom, strength, and wealth are the three pillars people lean on most — and the Lord names all three, one by one, as foundations that will not hold.
The verb here is relational — understanding and knowing God is more than gathering facts about him; it's the intimacy of someone who walks with him daily.
Steadfast love, justice, and righteousness aren't distant attributes of God — they're what he actually practices on the earth, every day, for his people.
God doesn't merely tolerate these things — he declares he delights in them, revealing that his own heart is bent toward steadfast love and justice.
This verse doesn't erase the human desire to boast — it redirects it, from what you have to who you know.
Act: Name the one thing you're most tempted to boast in today — wisdom, strength, or wealth — and consciously trade it for gratitude in knowing the Lord.
