“Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation.”
Of every title God could claim, the psalmist reaches for this one: Father of the fatherless — a God defined by care for those who have no one.
He doesn't merely sympathize with widows from a distance — He acts as their protector, taking the side of those with no one else to take it.
This care doesn't come from outside who God is — He exercises it from His own holy dwelling, from the very center of His being.
Orphans and widows stood for whoever ancient society most easily overlooked — and that is exactly who God draws nearest to.
If this is God's heart, it becomes the pattern for ours too — caring for whoever no one else is caring for.
Act: Think of one orphan, widow, or vulnerable person you know, and take one concrete step of care toward them today.
