DAY 143Hidden Providence · May 23, 2026

Hatred That Grows

“But he disdained to lay hands on Mordecai alone. So, as they had made known to him the people of Mordecai, Haman sought to destroy all the Jews, the people of Mordecai, throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus.”

1.

FROM ONE MAN TO A PEOPLE

One personal slight against Haman grew into a plan to exterminate an entire people. Unchecked resentment swells far past its original size.

2.

PRIDE THAT WON'T SETTLE

"He disdained to lay hands on Mordecai alone" — Haman's wounded pride would not settle for a small revenge; it demanded monstrous scale.

3.

THE PLOT PRECEDES THE CRISIS

This is the verse that launches the whole plot of the book — without it, there is no Esther, no Purim. Plotted evil always precedes visible deliverance.

4.

IDENTITY AS TARGET

Haman targets "the people of Mordecai," not just the individual. Hatred often aims at a whole identity, not merely one person.

5.

GOD UNNAMED, YET PRESENT

God's name never appears in the book of Esther, yet He governs every detail of this dark plot. Providence works even when it is invisible.

6.

SURRENDER THE GRUDGE

Act: before breakfast, name one grudge you have been feeding and surrender it to God in prayer before it grows beyond what you can control.
