A Repeated Conviction

“But David said to Abishai, “Do not destroy him, for who can put out his hand against the LORD's anointed and be guiltless?””

1.

DO NOT DESTROY HIM

This time it is Abishai who proposes violence, and David must stop him. Holding a conviction sometimes means protecting others from acting on your behalf.

2.

THE SECOND TIME

This is the second time David spares Saul, proving the earlier cave was no accident. Character shows itself when the test repeats.

3.

WHO CAN BE GUILTLESS

David turns the situation into a rhetorical question about guilt before God, not military strategy. He thinks in terms of conscience, not advantage.

4.

THE LORD'S ANOINTED, AGAIN

The same principle from chapter 24 reappears here almost word for word. True convictions do not shift when circumstances shift.

5.

TAKING THE SPEAR AND JAR

David takes silent proof that he could have killed Saul, without needing to. The proof of integrity is sometimes what you choose not to do.

6.

HOLD YOUR CONVICTION THE SECOND TIME

Act: if an old temptation has resurfaced today, pray reminding God of the same conviction you held the first time you overcame it.
