A Scepter That Holds

“The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until tribute comes to him; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.”

1.

PROPHECY AHEAD OF TIME

Centuries before Israel ever had a king, Jacob is already pointing to Judah — God writes the ending of the story long before its middle.

2.

A SCEPTER THAT DOESN'T LEAVE

"Shall not depart" is a promise of permanence, not luck — Judah's line would hold steady until the appointed moment arrived.

3.

UNTIL HE COMES

The promise has a target: "until tribute comes to him." All of Judah's history was walking toward one Person.

4.

THE OBEDIENCE OF PEOPLES

"To him shall be the obedience of the peoples" — the promise was never just for Israel. From the start, God had the whole world in view.

5.

THE ROOT AND THE SHOOT

Centuries later, Revelation will call Jesus "the Lion of the tribe of Judah" — this patriarchal blessing is the first seed of that title.

PRAY THE FULFILLMENT

Act: Before breakfast, read Revelation 5:5 alongside this verse and thank Jesus out loud for being the scepter who came to stay.
