“And Agrippa said to Paul, “In a short time would you persuade me to be a Christian?””
Agrippa has a throne, power, and freedom; Paul is in chains. Yet it's the prisoner who speaks with authority, and the king who feels confronted.
'In a short time' shows Paul's defense worked — the evidence and logic reached Agrippa's mind, almost enough to change his direction.
This is one of the saddest lines in Scripture — recognizing the truth and still stepping back from it is a quiet tragedy that repeats in many hearts.
Paul responds by wishing Agrippa and everyone there would become like him, except for the chains — not even the king's hesitation dims the apostle's hope.
This scene closes out Paul's string of defenses before kings and governors — the gospel has already reached the highest courts, without losing its force.
Act: If something you recently heard about Jesus moved you, don't put it off — talk today with someone about what that conviction is asking of you.
