I Came to Serve

“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.””

1.

AN ARGUMENT OVER SEATS OF HONOR

This verse answers James and John asking for the best seats in the kingdom. Jesus doesn't just rebuke their ambition — he redefines what greatness even means.

2.

NOT EVEN THE SON OF MAN

'Not even' is the key phrase — if the Son of Man himself didn't come to be served, no one who follows him can expect different treatment. His pattern becomes our pattern.

3.

SERVING AS DIRECTION, NOT EXCEPTION

He didn't come to serve occasionally as a side note — he came 'to serve,' full stop. Serving wasn't an extra in Jesus's mission; it was the very shape of it.

4.

A RANSOM FOR MANY

The word 'ransom' speaks of a price paid to free someone held captive. Jesus didn't just serve with gestures — he gave his own life as payment for our freedom.

5.

GREATNESS TURNED UPSIDE DOWN

If even the Son of Man measures greatness by how much he serves and gives, any definition of success that ignores this is upside down.

6.

ACT LIKE ONE WHO SERVES

Act: Choose one task today that no one will notice or thank you for, and do it gladly for someone, remembering that serving without recognition was Christ's own path.
