““Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!””
God does not gently invite quiet — He commands the striving to stop. Stillness before Him requires a deliberate decision, not an accident.
This psalm speaks of nations in uproar and mountains trembling into the sea. It is precisely there, amid the instability, that the command to be still is given.
'Know that I am God' asks for deep knowing, not shallow belief. It is the certainty that only comes when we stop long enough to watch Him act.
God does not need our anxiety to reign over the nations; He will be exalted whether we hurry or not. To be still is to admit this.
To be still before God is not weakness, but the source of true strength. It is from there that we go out ready to meet the day with calm.
Act: stop everything for three minutes today, in total silence, and repeat only 'He is God' until your heart slows down and truly trusts.
